Using WebP, webmasters and web developers can create smaller, richer images that make the web faster. WebP is a modern image format that provides superior lossless and lossy compression for images on the web. The format was developed by Google and aims to make the web faster with smaller-sized more efficient images. However, with macOS Big Sur and Safari 14 (same in Firefox), image downloads are natively saved in the new webp format, and there isn’t a way to change that, for now at least.
